be a tourist in your own country
you don't have to travel too far if you're looking to switch things up. be a tourist in your own country.
i'm a lover of travel. i'm trying to visit as many countries as i can but unfortunately i'm not in a position right now to do so, so i've put a pin in it for now. but that doesn't mean i can't travel. two friends and i took the bus to edinburgh, the capital & city in scotland.
we arrived outside a church that just happened to be having a massive book sale. when i say massive, i mean massive. every pew was filled with books on the ground level, upstairs, downstairs and a whole bunch of tables outside. they truly had it all. this was an absolute treat for us. i picked up two john steinbeck books: cannery row and the grapes of wrath.
museums were next on the agenda. we visited the national gallery, museum of childhood and national museum of scotland. all free! i didn't realise how many free activities there were in the capital :)
in between we did a lot of window shopping and browsing through shops on the royal mile. we also visited greyfriar bobby's statue and grave.
the weather was sublime. the coat i brought was tucked away in my bag for the majority of the day. i felt lucky that we were able to spend such a fantastic day in such beautiful weather.
ultimately we needed more time to accomplish everything we set out to do, but that's fine by us. we'll just have to come back again soon!
i can definitely see myself coming back in july, staying in a hostel & bringing my book. i'd like to explore the city some more and spend some time on the green if the weather allows me to.
if you've never been to edinburgh, i'd recommend making the trip. it was great to see and hear all of the happy tourists in my home country. there was definitely a moment of pride with being scottish and very lucky to live in this beautiful country.
to be continued!
