doing the work pays off

today marks a little personal achievement of mine. i’m now halfway through paying off some debt. although i’m not all the way done yet, it’s still a fantastic feeling.

when i first started my debt journey i felt hopeless. i thought my life was going to be long and miserable while i paid it all off. i found it difficult at first because i’d been used to spending money whenever i wanted to. bad day? pick me up. good day? treat. but i had to stop. going cold turkey was necessary.

the first three weeks were the hardest but it gave me the time that i needed. time to reflect, time to learn new ways to live and choose better habits.

my spending habits have changed dramatically. before if i wanted something i would just buy it. now i write it down in my notes app and let it be for a while. what i found was over time i’d lose interest and didn’t want to purchase it anymore.

i’m doing simpler things now. reading books, playing my backlog of video games, spending time outdoors and with the people i care about.

am i perfect? absolutely not. but i’m putting in the work to make things better. one day soon i will be debt free and i’ll be able to begin anew. isn’t that exciting?
